Tired of Trusting Your Relationship Chemistry to the Fairy Godmother?

I remember trying to get relationship chemistry going, when I was a kid.

My best resource was Playboy magazine, which I used to sneak peeks at the drug store, since I am pre-internet and pre-explicit movies, etc... And I did not have the market savvy to know that Hugh Hefner was trying to sell me lots of stuff, rather than help me understand relationship chemistry.

Luckily for folks these days, Helen Fisher, Ph.D, has done some very interesting work on relationship chemistry. She has used a tool that Hugh Hefner and 99% of dating coaches, gurus, mavens, and counselors could only dream about back in the day, called fMRI or functional magnetic resonance images, to look at in-love brains.

Fisher is putting a scientific face on relationship chemistry and the process we humans go through as we work to establish relationship chemistry. One might think that science would take the mystery and poetry out of love, but I do not think that is the case.

I think that folks can be a little more practical if they understand what the feelings in the their bodies are trying to get them to do, and direct the process effectively.

Fisher's fMRI examinations have identifies three brain systems that are active in the relationship chemistry process, and it appears that each of the three has a hormone or neurotransmitter associated with it, and the presence of that neurotransmitter, for example, can be encouraged by engaging in certain activities.

(There is where the strategy of a relationship coach could come in handy).

Fisher's research also says that there are four basic personality types, and that we should make some effort to find a compatible type to have relationship chemistry with.

Contrast that to the Hefner model, which says folks should have relationship chemistry randomly, or the Prince Charming/Cinderella model which says relationship chemistry will happen after the intervention of the Fairy Godmother.

Personally, I will take advantage of the chemistry at Helen Fisher's site, Chemistry.com. I prefer not to waste time.

The Four Types and Their Relationship Chemistry

Professor Fisher says that based on her studies of genetics and neuroscience she believes that people fall into four broad personality types—each influenced by a different brain chemical. She calls her types the the Explorer, Builder, Director, and Negotiator.

Professor Fisher designed a survey for the Oprah show to see which types had married each other and stayed together, and how the mix was playing out in their relationships. She got 500 results and was astounded at the data.

Now, with additional information, she offers scientific guidance about dating depending on which personality you are—especially if you're looking for a relationship chemistry that lasts.

So which love type are you?

Type: The ExplorerTraits: Highly curious, creative, energetic, spontaneous.
Type: The BuilderTraits: Calm, social, popular, and good at managing people, networking, and building family and community.
Type: The DirectorTraits: Analytical and logical, straightforward, decisive, tough minded, and focused.
Type: The NegotiatorTraits: Imaginative, intuitive, empathetic, and emotionally expressive, and have good verbal and social skills.

Fisher says that not only are their personality types, but there are brain systems designed to get us moving down the relationship chemistry path.

The systems are lust, love, and trust systems, each ruled by a different hormone or neurotransmitter.

Those brain systems are what get us moving in the relationship arena, and if we find a compatible personality type, we can move rapidly ahead in affairs of the heart, with less risk of broken hearts and unrequited love.

And my apologies to the Fairy Godmother and the Mr. Hefner. You should have thought of this.

Halloween is around the corner and you are looking for Halloween costumes. Or could it be sexy costumes? Then again, Halloween is not the only time that you can be looking out for costumes, you could be looking for say, Christmas costumes. The point is, costumes add fun to the festivities so why not?

When it comes to Halloween costumes, the choices are just about endless. Here are some costume ideas for you:

It is much better to buy an 'evergreen' Halloween outfit suitable for a boy or girl that they will love to wear. You can either ask them outright what do they want to dress up as or show them a picture of some costumes first. This is not guaranteed to be a perfect solution by any means, as children can be very fickle with their choices, but at least you will be on the right track.

For little boys, Superman, Batman or a current movie hero is a good start and for little girls any of the Disney Princesses or pretty colored tinkerbell flower fairy costumes will usually be happily accepted. If you are thinking 'well, that's not very original or unusual!' then of course you are quite right, but there is a good reason why these sell so well every year and that is because these costumes are what children really want.

The New Retirement - Fairy Tale Or Nightmare

A major financial services company recently conducted a survey and found as many as two-thirds of retirees are dissatisfied with their retirement life. How can that be? This finding was true regardless of their financial situation.

People have worked hard their whole life to reach a point where they are free to do what they want without anyone making demands on their time or energy. Shouldn't this be the happiest time of their lives?

People who haven't engaged in any planning about their life before retiring follow an interesting pattern. The first days and weeks of retirement are often approached as the vacation they always dreamed about. They get to sleep in as late as they want, leisurely read the paper over a steaming cup of coffee.

The days maybe filled with catching up on small projects around the house that they put on hold. Cleaning out closets, organizing photos, and completing minor home repairs top many people's list.

Spending time with children, grandchildren and friends also becomes a priority. Sports, such as golf can now be enjoyed more often. Trips are planned and taken.

Sometime, usually in month three or four of retirement, a thought trickle's into the mind that is faintly restless and uneasy. It might sound something like, "Is this all there is?" How to Clean Your Fairy Wings

Fairy wings are a fun costume addition for your little girl but I am sure not all girls are the cleanest when it comes to party time. Generally your fairy wings are going to be a delicate costume piece and you will want to use care when cleaning them. If treated properly your fairy wings will give your little princess years of fun and enjoyment. here are some tips you can use to clean your set of fairy wings while keeping them in top condition for a longer life. Let's first look at the construction for the fairy wings so you understand clearly what materials you are dealing with. Most of the time fairy wings are made out of the same material as nylons or tights. This material as you know is prone to runs and will tear easily. There are different qualities of course of this material as with any material but no matter what quality yours are made of you will still want to take care in their treatment. The fairy wings are often joined in the middle before the tight material is placed on the wires. They will be wired or taped together where the formed wires are joined. The only "durable" part of your fairy wings will be the wire around the edge and perhaps the material covering the joint.

Let's start first with a few of the things you should avoid:

Never put fairy wings in the clothes washer. This may be a no brainer for you but I thought it would be good to put in just in case...
Never use a wire brush or stiff cleaning brush as the bristles may damage your wings.
Never use bleach on your fairy wings
keep wings away from extreme heat or fire

Okay, now that we have that out of the way let's talk about things you can do to actually keep the wings in good shape:

Warm water is your friend in most cases. Use warm water and if needed gentle soap to clean most soil from your fairy wings. of course we all know that you use cold water for blood but I am going to wager that if you need to clean blood out of your wings...that probably is not your greatest worry.

Use a soft cloth to assist in removing cake or icing or other food or items that may get on your wings.

If you have a sprayer in your sink this is a great way to clean your wings. With the sprayer you will be able to clear away the cup cake chinks and bring your wings back to life.
Use a dish towel to pat dry after you have washed your wings and then let air dry.

I would recommend you also spray your wings with scotch guard or similar protecting spray once you receive them to help keep them from staining. A small amount of prevention can save you the headache of needing to apply any cleaning techniques. So go ahead and enjoy your fairy wings for whatever the occasion and rest assured that now you know some tips that will help you keep them clean and lasting for years to come.

Creating a Magical Fairy Garden With Garden Fairy Statues and the Right Plant Selection

Garden fairy statues are one of my favorites in the world of garden statues, and for good reason... They are cute and beautiful and they really enhance your flower garden.  Here are some of the flowers that will give you the best results in creating a magical flower garden.

When you are using whimsical and mythical garden sculptures you pretty much need to go with either very formal gardens (think English gardens) or very informal gardens (think cottage gardens).   If  you are using dragons, griffins, or gargoyles in your design than formal is the way to go.  But for fairies, informal gardens will be your best bet.

Many people think of an informal garden as an overgrown mess, but that doesn't have to be the case at all.  To get a neat look, you just need to choose the right plants for your fairies to find a home.

Of course, I do have favorite plants for incorporating into a magical fairy garden.  They include roses, climbers, and cottage perennials.  When it comes to climbing plants, clematis top my list.   You can do clematis in two different ways.  The first way is to simply allow the clematis to climb up your fence.  This works very well if you use several different types of clematis, so that it blooms all season. Use fairy statues that can attach to your fence and peak from between the plants.  The second way is to use a single plant on a garden obelisk.    This plant can them become the centerpiece of your garden.

There is almost no other plant that can beat the impact of a rose.  I am not talking about hard to grow florist tea roses here, but rather the kind that your grandmother may have had in her garden.  I recommend doing roses in a bed by themselves as they don't like competition.  The newer varieties look great, bloom long, and are disease resistant.  The best part is that roses are a natural match to fairies.

My other favorite type of flower to use with garden fairy statues is a group of garden perennials.  These combine very well with clematis and if you plan right, you will have blooms all season.  When you are choosing perennial flowers for your bed be sure to buy for your climate and sunlight.  Your fairy garden statues will look right at home in a bed like this.

The Traditional Prepation of Absinthe
