La Fee Bohemian (lack of) Louche

Well here we got La Fee Bohemian absinth. Ok this really shouldnt be marketed as an absinthe because it doesnt have much in common with a traditional absinthe, I guess thats why its absinth. This bottle is 70% abv. with scents of fennel, grande wormwood, mint, and alcohol. This absinth does not louche, comparable to most Czech absinths, this is because it is made with much less or even no anise. Tasting notes: Mint, fennel, wormwood, and not much else. A lot of people call Czech absinth mouthwash, I dont think it tastes much like mouthwash-not minty enough, but it definatly dont taste like absinthe. Now that being said as an absinthe taste wise it is a horrible absinthe, now on a drink on its own its actually not that bad the flavors of mint and fennel on the forefront and a wormwood finish isnt bad, I think it finishes rather well, I like this better without sugar.

L'Eiffel Bistrot & Creperie, South Barrington, IL - Absinthe

www.chicagobuffets.com Preparation of Absinthe at L'Eiffel Bistrot & Creperie in South Barrington, IL Absinthe is traditionally a distilled, highly alcoholic (45%-75% ABV) beverage. It is an anise-flavored spirit derived from herbs, including the flowers and leaves of the herb Artemisia absinthium, also called wormwood. Absinthe has a characteristic natural green color but can also be colorless. It is often called "the Green Fairy". Although it is sometimes mistakenly called a liqueur, absinthe is not bottled with added sugar and is therefore classified as a liquor. Absinthe is unusual among spirits in that it is bottled at a high proof but is normally diluted with water when it is consumed. Traditionally, absinthe is prepared by placing a sugar cube on top of a specially designed slotted spoon and then placing the spoon on the glass which has been filled with a shot of absinthe. Ice-cold water then is poured or dripped over the sugar cube so that the water is slowly and evenly displaced into the absinthe until the drink is diluted to a ratio between 3 and 5:1. During this process, the components that are not soluble in water (mainly those from anise, fennel, and star anise) come out of solution and cloud the drink. The resulting milky opalescence is called the louche. The addition of water is important because it causes the herbs to "blossom" and brings out many of the flavors originally over-powered by the anise. Video by Todor Krecu www.krecu.com

Rieg - The Absynth Ritual

Rieg's creative idea behind The Absynth Ritual album was inspired by the fact that the "Absynth" word is very like the word "Absinth". With a little fantasy, the Absynth word relates to both synthesizers and Absinth, which is an alcoholic drink with some special attributes to it. Some of the artists and authors around a century ago, -"the bohemians" used a lot of the trendy Absinth drink at the time (which still can be bought in some countries). However, it was also believed that long time use of Absinth could lead to excentrism and madness. The Absinth color is normally green and when water blends with Absinth (as part of the Absinth Ritual), the visual, ghostly effect in the glass is called the Green Fairy. So Rieg have used the Absinth and all around it as themes for the music in this album. The Green Fairy is a relatively light tune illustrating happy fairies, flying and dancing in the absynth g... -sorry, absinth glass. The Absynth tune starts out quietly as from a harmonic and peaceful soul, but ends up more wild (as from a soul affected by long time use of "Absinth"). Daughters of Doom, is kind of a musical journey, where these daughters (green fairies) first was sent away and doomed, but later was rescued and could return home. This piece is kind of classical in style, blended with electronic music and new age style style. The Absynth Ritual is just a honor to the Absinth Ritual, which is a special ritual for making this drink. Some of this can be seen on the ...
